Force 5 AUCTION

HSC will auction a complete, race-ready Force 5 at the Annual Dinner on November 12th!

The force 5 is a single-handed one design racing sailboat with an active fleet at HSC. It has a hull weight of 145 lbs and sail area of 91 sq ft on the full sail. A short rig sail is also available. It is similar to the Laser but with a hard chine aft. Outhaul, Cunningham, and Vang are adjustable with control lines while sailing.

History:
This Force 5 has a long and successful history at Spruce Run.  Built by AMF in 1978, it was originally donated it to the club by Dave Davies for auction in the late 1990’s.  HSC member Hitoshi Tanaka purchased the boat, cared for it well, and eventually donated the boat back to the Club in 2018. This was just in time for the 2018 Force 5 North American Championship, hosted by HSC, when we needed race-ready Force 5’s for traveling competitors.  Just prior to the NAC,  improvements were made the hull, sealing and refinishing the cockpit floor.  The boat had little use in 2019 and less in 2020 and 2021 with interference from HAB and Covid.  This year our Rear Commodore team took the lead on repairing some damage to the hull, restoring the boat to race-readiness.

Auction Bidding:
We are accepting sealed bids through email as well as in person silent auction bidding at the HSC annual dinner.  The dinner is November 12, 2022 at Fox Hollow Golf Club located at 59 Fox Chase Run, Branchburg, NJ 08876 at 6:15 pm.  If you will not be participating in the dinner, you may send your not-to-exceed bid to webmaster@sailhsc.org by 4 pm November 12, 2022.  The email bids will be honored at $1 above the highest silent auction bid but not to exceed the bidder’s stated maximum. Minimum bid for members is $300.
