Assembly of New Sails on Spars
This past Saturday, Feb 21, a group of HSC members met at Delaware Township School to assemble 16 new Sunfish sails onto spars. They put numbers, tell tales and secured the sails to the spars. This effort was so well organized by Oisin and Gene that the entire job was completed by early afternoon. Many thanks to Valerie for arranging her school space for this and Ginger for the extra boost of energy from her delicious coffee cake. Thanks to all who dedicated their time so that HSC members who use our club Sunfish will have new crisp sails to enjoy.

Race Committee and
How to Get a Boat Safety Certificate
Our club takes safety seriously. In order to run races, training and other open sailing activities we always have a safety boat on the water to support our sailors. As an all-volunteer organization, we need all members to participate in Race Committee (RC) at least once.

Crew (support),
Safety Boat Operator or Chair (lead)
Crew (support) does not require any experience. Ride with the Chairperson in a safety boat or pontoon boat. Crew perform tasks at the direction of the Chair like writing boat numbers on a scoresheet, sounding a horn, raising and lowering flags, and supporting anchoring. It is a great way to improve your own sailing skills by observing experienced sailors and get to know other club members while enjoying time on the water.

Safe Boating Operator (SBO) drives a skiff and supports the Chairperson on Sundays and Annual races. Both positions require that you have a Safe Boating Certificate. It is super fun to drive the small skiffs and pontoon boat.
