The Force 5 Millard Fillmore Regatta – Sunday October 4th @ HSC
The Hunterdon Sailing Club welcomes all Force 5 sailors, potential F5 sailors, and FFCA members from nearby clubs to participate in the Millard Fillmore Regatta. Shake the tarp off your boat and join us for some a crazy race. If you do not own a Force 5 we have 2 club-owned boats that are available to sail for this event. First come, first serve.
The Millard Fillmore Regatta is a long-standing tradition for the HSC Force 5 Fleet as inspired by our 13th President, Millard Fillmore (1850 – 1853). President Fillmore had a ‘nominal’ reputation as he navigated his Presidential duties by the path of least resistance. Known as ‘the great compromiser’, President Fillmore was perceived as an ‘average’, if not ‘mediocre’ US President.
It is with this inspiration that we sail to honor the most average Force 5 sailor of the day. We will race 5 races, two in the morning, followed by lunch ashore, and three in the afternoon. If we can sail 3 races in the morning, we will allow one throw-out race. The afternoon races will be conducted with the regular HSC Sunday Regatta with separate starts for the Force 5 Fleet. The “winner” of this regatta will be the skipper who’s cumulative race results place him or her at mid-fleet for the day. Ties will be decided by the least extreme (most average) race results. The perpetual trophy is the Millard Fillmore Biography enclosed in a felt-lined glass case created by Ted Janulis. Our new champion will add their signature to a list of 35 years of previous winners – a long line of highly accomplished (and sometimes mediocre) Force 5 sailors, including: Rich Baumann, Susan Mallows, Byron Hicks, Ray Buchanan, Courtney Young, Jay Halsted, Ted Janulis, Bill Seiple, Andrew Gilmartin, and many other avid Force 5 sailors.
There will be no regatta fee except to be an HSC Member or guest. Plan the Skippers meeting for 10am.
Please RSVP your intention so we can get an idea of participation.
