HSC DOUBLES STORAGE SPACE

Taking advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire more storage space, HSC has purchased the Rutgers shed ( a duplicate of ours). Current plans call for housing our present "crash" boat in one and the new boat in the other, thus providing a standby craft such as could have been used several times this year for rescue and training, and also to better support larger regattas. These items were thoroughly discussed during winter executive meetings and funds earmarked in capital budgets. Treasurer George Cassa reports a continuing strong financial position due to contributions and sale of two boats by members and increased membership due to our expanded training sessions. (C.E.)

STATE LIAISON REPORT

As you can see by the nearby latest delaying tactics of the DEP/NJWSA, we still have work to do to maintain Recreation as part of the Spruce Run Recreation Area.

After two months of greatly reduced Spruce Run draw down, the NJSWA has now reverted to 130,000,000 gallons per day, (up from 25,000,000).

Experiment: New Members List

This new membership list is an experiment. The Vice Commodore asked me to create a list of members that the Newsletter Editors could print. It lists the members that did not make it into the handbook.(17) The last member joined Aug 22nd. Added are the members that have changed their address or E-mail etc. (5) The list is in the same format of those in the handbook so that members can stick the sheet in their book as an extra page.

Next year we can issue this list one month after the handbook comes out. And maybe re-issue an updated version a month later.

DAY SAILER FLEET 86 NEWS

THE RIGHT STUFF THE RIGHT WAY!

On a late Wednesday afternoon last July I met Barbara and Kevin O’Connor for the very first time and for the very first time (for them) took them sailing on a center-boarder; my Day Sailer. EVERLUFFIN’ It was a crash course at best, only about an hour with all the usuals; each taking turns beating, reaching, running, winging the jib, etc. A week later Barbara and their daughter both responded well to their introduction to a Sunfish before the Wednesday twi-light racing. Within a few weeks they purchased a Day Sailer and on Sunday, August 22nd were out on the course for 3 races doing well and learning fast.

Reticent Fleet 86 members PLEASE TAKE NOTE! rrr
